Orono is a city on the north shore of Lake Minnetonka in Hennepin County, Minnesota, United States. The city was named after the Maine town of Orono on the suggestion of earlier residents. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 25.15 square miles (65.14 km2), of which 15.98 square miles (41.39 km2) is land and 9.17 square miles (23.75 km2) is water. U.S. Highway 12 serves as a main route.
